Students choose a trade or technical “major” after exploring options in 9th grade. Pathways are grouped into several focus areas:
Skilled Trades
Design & Technology
Service & Applied Sciences
Each program includes hands-on training, labs, and a senior exit project. Some pathways also lead to industry certifications.
Saunders provides a strong foundation, but most students will want additional training or certifications after graduation. That’s where New York’s accredited trade schools and apprenticeship programs come in.
High school CTE programs like Saunders give students a head start. But in fields such as HVAC, welding, plumbing, and electrical work, post-secondary trade schools provide the advanced training, certifications, and professional connections that employers require.
According to the U.S. Department of Education, over 70% of CTE students enroll in additional education or training within two years of graduation — showing the value of planning beyond high school.
If you’re a Saunders student or parent, think of high school as step one. The next step is choosing a specialized trade school or apprenticeship program that matches your career goals. Use our New York state hub to explore accredited schools, compare programs, and plan your pathway after graduation.
